What does a demand generation agency do?

A demand generation agency creates interest in your product with people who are not yet looking, and turns that interest into sales pipeline. For B2B SaaS that usually means paid ads on LinkedIn, Google and Meta, content and SEO, account-based marketing (ABM) for named target accounts, and the reporting in your CRM to show which channel produced which opportunity.

Lead generation is narrower: it fills a form or a calendar. Ask any agency whether it reports on leads or on qualified pipeline before you sign.

A newer part of the job is AI search. Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews which tool to pick. Some agencies sell this as generative engine optimization (GEO) or answer engine optimization (AEO). We note below which ones do.

How did we pick these agencies?

We started from the agencies Google shows in the US for "demand generation agency" and "B2B SaaS demand generation agency", and the lists that rank for them. We ranked on five things, in this order:

  1. B2B SaaS focus: SaaS or B2B tech is the main client base, as the agency states it.
  2. Pipeline reporting: the agency says it measures opportunities, pipeline or revenue, not only leads or clicks.
  3. Named results: a client name and a number, as the agency reports it.
  4. Channel range: paid, content, SEO, ABM and AI search from one team, or a clear specialty.
  5. Price and terms: a published starting price, a minimum, or clear contract terms.

We left out app marketing, regulated-industry and consumer shops. We have not hired any of these ten, none paid to be here, and every entry is editorial. All results are the agencies' own claims, not verified by us. We make Rank Monthly, which is listed on its own after the ten.

What should a demand gen agency do about AI answers?

Paid ads stop when the budget stops. AI answers keep naming the brands they find on pages they trust. So ask every agency how they handle AI search.

Most of those pages are not yours. In a Prefer study from July 2026, 40% of the sources AI assistants cited for buyer questions were independent lists. Vendors' own sites got 34%, review sites 3%. In Foundation and AirOps' 2026 study of 5.1 million AI responses for 50 B2B brands, 2.24% of AI citations on category questions went to the brand's own pages.

So good AI search work has two parts: pages of your own that are easy to quote, and a place on the third-party best-of lists, reviews and LinkedIn posts the assistants cite. An AI visibility tracker shows which pages each answer cited. Our guide to LLM SEO covers the full picture.

How do you check a demand generation agency's numbers?

  1. Ask what each number measures, from what start value, over what period.
  2. Ask whether results are pipeline and revenue, or only leads and MQLs.
  3. Ask for one client you can call, in a company your size.
  4. Read the terms on their site and in the proposal. Two of the ten state different terms in different places.

Not an agency: placements in the lists AI quotes

Rank Monthly is a different kind of product, so it is not in the ranking above. It books businesses into the listicles, newsletters and LinkedIn creator posts that buyers read and AI assistants quote, and keeps them there. See our guide to listicle placements.

A different approach: placements, not an agency

  1. 1. Rank Monthly

You add your website, Rank Monthly reads what you sell, scans competitors and finds the searches you want to show up for, and you set a budget. It books you into list articles that already rank, new sponsored articles and LinkedIn posts. One ledger shows every placement, page visit, click and AI mention, month by month, with what was paid. It does not promise rankings or AI mentions: Google and the assistants decide.

    Good

    • Places you on third-party pages buyers and AI read
    • Pay monthly only while the spot is live, or once for a new post
    • Payment held until the placement is verified live
    • Publisher numbers come from connected Search Console and Analytics
    • Sponsored label and rel="sponsored" on by default

    Watch out

    • New: no customer results to show yet
    • Only publishers who joined are available
    • Not an agency: it does not run ads or your content
    • Not a full AI visibility tracker
    • Pricing on request

Questions

What is a demand generation agency?
A demand generation agency creates interest in your product among buyers who are not yet looking and turns it into sales pipeline. For B2B SaaS it usually runs paid ads, content, SEO and account-based marketing, and reports on qualified opportunities and revenue in your CRM.
How much does a B2B SaaS demand generation agency cost?
Of the ten agencies we checked on 1 November 2026, published starting prices ran from $1,000 a month for one Lean Labs AEO module and $4,500 a month for SaaS Hero's paid ads team to $26,000 a month for Refine Labs' full service. NoGood says its average retainer is above $20,000 a month, and Gripped states £5K to £15K a month. Ad spend comes on top.
What is the difference between demand generation and lead generation?
Lead generation captures contacts or meetings from people already looking. Demand generation builds interest before buyers look, through ads, content and brand, and is judged on pipeline and revenue. Ask which one an agency reports on.
Which demand generation agencies also do AI search or GEO?
On their own sites on 1 November 2026, Powered by Search and Gripped sell GEO, TripleDart sells AEO and GEO, Lean Labs and NoGood sell AEO, and SaaS Hero includes AEO in its programmatic SEO add-on. Directive names AI answer engines in its DiscoverabilityOS method but not as a separate service. Kalungi, Refine Labs and Hey Digital did not mention an AI search service on the pages we read.
Can a demand generation agency get my SaaS named in ChatGPT?
No agency can promise it. The assistants decide what they name. An agency can make your pages easier to quote and work on the third-party lists and reviews AI cites. Ask which prompts they track, with which tool, and for a named client result.
