Why does digital PR matter for AI answers?

When a buyer asks an assistant for the best tool in your category, the answer mostly quotes pages you don't own. In a study of 5.1 million AI responses for 50 B2B brands by Foundation and AirOps, 2.24% of AI citations on category questions went to the brand's own pages. In Prefer's July 2026 study, 40% of the sources AI assistants cited for buyer questions were independent lists.

That is the job of digital PR: getting your brand into news articles, trade press, data roundups and best-of lists. Each brand mention is a page an assistant can find and cite. Hard Numbers reports that 61% of the content ChatGPT cited on the reputations of the 100 most valuable brands came from earned media (its November 2024 report). Treble's buyer survey of 300 senior B2B buyers (Censuswide, fieldwork December 2025) found 47% of buyers now start vendor research with AI tools. Both are agencies that sell PR, so read their numbers with that in mind.

How did we rank these digital PR agencies?

We scored each agency on five things a SaaS team needs, in this order of weight:

  1. SaaS or B2B software focus: named as a market, with named software clients.
  2. Work on AI answers: a stated method, which assistants it checks and how it measures. Saying "AI visibility" without a method scores low.
  3. Named results on its own site, with numbers. We report them as the agency states them.
  4. Public price: can you see what you will pay before a sales call?
  5. Fit: stage, region and other services.

We did not hire these agencies or check their results. AI answers change from run to run, so no agency controls them. For agencies focused only on AI answers, see our GEO agencies list.

What is the difference between digital PR and tech PR?

Digital PR grew out of SEO. The agency pitches a story, often a data study, to online media to earn coverage and backlinks. Siege Media and uSERP work this way.

Tech PR is media relations for technology companies: launches, funding news, interviews, analysts and awards. Treble, Bospar, PANBlast and Zen Media work this way. Crackle PR, Definition and Hard Numbers mix both and add work on AI answers.

For AI answers, what matters is whether the coverage lands on pages the assistants already cite for your category.

What does a digital PR agency for SaaS cost?

Three of the ten publish a price (checked 1 November 2026). Crackle PR starts at $12,000 a month with a six-month minimum. Siege Media says its services start around $12,000 to $15,000 a month when content and promotion are both included. uSERP prices a campaign at $15,000 to $100,000+ once. The other seven share prices on request.

So at the agencies that publish a price, a retainer starts at about $12,000 a month, or about $72,000 over Crackle PR's six-month minimum. A single uSERP campaign starts at $15,000. For what GEO work costs in general, see what GEO costs.

How do you pick a digital PR agency for SaaS?

  1. List the pages AI cites for your category. Ask the assistants your buyers' questions and note the sources, or use a tracker.
  2. Ask each agency which of those outlets it has placed clients in during the last year, with links.
  3. Ask how it measures AI answers: which assistants, which questions, how often, and against what baseline.
  4. Ask for named SaaS results with dates, and how much of each result came from PR alone.
  5. Ask for the price, the minimum term and what happens after it.

When is a PR agency not the answer?

A PR retainer makes sense when you have news, data or experts worth quoting, and the budget for six months or more. Before that, the free route works: publish original research on your own site, pitch the journalists who cover your category yourself, and ask the editors of ranking listicles to review your product.

If AI cites mostly "best X" articles in your category, a PR agency may be the slow road. Our guide to listicle placements explains how getting into those lists works, and LLM SEO covers the full picture.

Not an agency: placements in the lists AI quotes

Rank Monthly is a different kind of product, so it is not in the ranking above. We make it. It books businesses into the listicles, newsletters and LinkedIn creator posts that buyers read and AI assistants quote, and keeps them there. A PR agency earns coverage it can't control; Rank Monthly books a known spot: in a list article that already ranks, or in a new sponsored post.

A different approach: booked spots, not earned coverage

  1. 1. Rank Monthly

You add your website, Rank Monthly reads what you sell, scans competitors and finds the searches you want to show up for, and you set a budget. It books you into list articles that already rank, new sponsored articles and LinkedIn posts. One ledger shows every placement, page visit, click and AI mention, month by month, with what was paid. It does not promise rankings or AI mentions: Google and the assistants decide.

    Good

    • Books known spots on pages that already rank
    • Pay monthly only while the spot is live, or once for a new post
    • Payment held until the placement is verified live
    • Publisher numbers come from connected Search Console and Analytics
    • Sponsored label and rel="sponsored" on by default

    Watch out

    • New: no customer results to show yet
    • Only publishers who joined are available
    • Not a PR agency: no press pitching or launches
    • No news coverage or journalist relations
    • Pricing on request

Questions

What does a digital PR agency do for a SaaS company?
A digital PR agency earns coverage for a SaaS company in online media: news sites, trade press, data roundups and list articles. The result is mentions and links on pages that buyers read and that AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Perplexity can cite.
What is the difference between a digital PR agency and a tech PR agency?
A digital PR agency grew out of SEO and counts success in links and online mentions, often from data studies. A tech PR agency does classic media relations for technology companies: launches, funding news, interviews, analysts and awards. Several agencies now do both.
How much does a SaaS PR agency cost?
Of the ten agencies we checked on 1 November 2026, three publish a price. Crackle PR starts at $12,000 a month with a six-month minimum. Siege Media starts around $12,000 to $15,000 a month with content. uSERP charges $15,000 to $100,000+ per campaign. The other seven share prices on request.
Can a PR agency get my SaaS mentioned in ChatGPT?
No agency can promise it. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews decide what they cite, and answers change from run to run. A PR agency can earn coverage on the pages assistants already cite. Ask how it measures the result: which assistants, which questions and how often.
Do I need a PR agency to show up in AI answers?
Not always. You can publish original research, pitch journalists yourself and ask editors of ranking list articles to review your product. A PR agency helps when you have news or data worth covering and the budget: about $12,000 a month at the agencies here that publish a retainer price, or $15,000 and up for one uSERP campaign.
