Rank Monthly vs AI visibility trackers: what each one does (2026)

An AI visibility tracker shows where your brand is missing in AI answers. Rank Monthly books spots in lists from publishers in its network and reports AI mentions for those placements. One measures, the other acts. They work well together.

An AI visibility tracker shows where your brand appears, and where it is missing, in answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and other assistants. Rank Monthly does a different job: it books spots in list articles from publishers in its network, where the publisher accepts, and reports AI mentions for those placements. A tracker measures. Rank Monthly acts. The two can work together.

We read the pricing pages of six trackers on 1 November 2026 and link every fact to its source.

What does an AI visibility tracker do?

A tracker runs a fixed set of prompts (questions a buyer might ask) through AI assistants on a schedule, often daily. It records whether your brand is named, how it is described, which competitors are named, and which pages the assistant cited as sources. Over time you see a trend line for your share of answers.

The cited sources are often the most useful part. If assistants keep citing the same "best X" articles for your category and you are not in them, you know where the gap is. That matters: in a Prefer study of 188 AI answers (July 2026), 40% of the sources cited for buyer questions were independent lists. Vendors' own sites got 34%.

What does Rank Monthly do?

Rank Monthly books businesses into the listicles ("best X" articles), newsletters and LinkedIn creator posts that buyers read and AI assistants quote, and keeps them there. Today that means positions in existing list articles, new sponsored articles and LinkedIn posts. Newsletter placements follow.

  1. You add your website. Rank Monthly reads what you sell, scans your competitors and finds the searches you want to show up for.
  2. You set a budget. Matching runs on real data: publishers connect Search Console, Analytics and WordPress, so their numbers are measured, never typed in.
  3. A publisher accepts the deal (or has auto-accept on). The entry is written, and content can be live within 7 days when auto-accept is on.
  4. Payment is held until the placement is verified live. You pay monthly, only while the spot is live, or once for a new post.
  5. The ledger shows every placement, page visit, click and AI mention, month by month, with what was paid.

The sponsored label and rel="sponsored" are on by default; each publisher decides whether to keep them. Rank Monthly cannot promise that a list ranks in Google or that an assistant names you. Google and the assistants decide.

Where are trackers stronger than Rank Monthly?

In measurement. That is their job, and Rank Monthly is not a tracker.

  • Breadth: a tracker can follow hundreds of prompts across many assistants (11 on AthenaHQ Starter, 6 to pick from on Peec AI self-serve plans). Rank Monthly reports AI mentions only for the placements it booked.
  • Competitors: trackers show how often rivals are named and how answers describe them. Rank Monthly does not benchmark your share of voice.
  • Diagnosis: most trackers show the exact pages each answer cited, so you can see which lists and sources shape your category.
  • On-site fixes: AthenaHQ, Scrunch and HubSpot AEO give recommendations or page audits for your own site.
  • Speed to start: a free plan or trial, or $29 a month, and no publisher in the loop.
  • Maturity: Rank Monthly is in early access, with no customers or results to show yet.

Where does Rank Monthly do something a tracker does not?

A tracker can tell you that a list is cited often and you are not in it. It cannot put you in it. Getting into third-party lists is where most of the work sits: in a Foundation and AirOps study of 5.1 million AI responses for 50 B2B brands, only 2.24% of citations on category questions went to the brand's own pages.

  • Action: Rank Monthly books spots in list articles, new sponsored articles and LinkedIn posts from publishers in its network, where the publisher accepts.
  • Measured publishers: brands can filter by topic, site strength and rating.
  • Paid while live: payment is held until the placement is verified live, and monthly spots are paid only while they stay live.
  • One ledger: placements, page visits, clicks and AI mentions per placement, month by month, next to what was paid.

The limits are real too. Rank Monthly can only book publishers who joined its network, and a publisher can say no. A spot in a list does not mean that list will be cited, or that an assistant will name you.

When should you choose a tracker, Rank Monthly or both?

Which one fits your situation
Your situationStart withWhy
You don't know how AI assistants describe you todayA trackerYou need a baseline before you spend on anything else
You need to report AI share of voice to leadershipA trackerTrend lines and competitor data are what trackers are built for

You want a managed program end to endBoth, or an agencyA tracker to measure the category, placements to act on it

Free routes exist for every step: running prompts by hand in each assistant, and pitching list authors yourself. They cost time instead of money.

How do a tracker and Rank Monthly work together?

  1. Run your category prompts in a tracker for a few weeks. Answers vary, so watch trends.
  2. Export the cited sources and find the list articles that come up again and again for your category.
  3. Check which of those lists, or similar ones, are available in Rank Monthly.
  4. Book the spots that fit your budget. Payment is held until each one is verified live.
  5. Read the Rank Monthly ledger for per-placement clicks and AI mentions, and the tracker for the category-wide picture. Keep the prompt set stable so months compare.

Neither tells you why an assistant chose a source, so treat both as signals, not proof. For the full method, read the LLM SEO guide.

Is Rank Monthly a replacement for an AI visibility tracker?

No. If you need a tracker, pick one of the tools above. If you need to get into the lists a tracker shows you are missing, that is what Rank Monthly does. Pricing on request during early access. See the businesses page.

Questions

What is the difference between an AI visibility tracker and Rank Monthly?
An AI visibility tracker runs prompts through AI assistants and shows where your brand is named or missing, and which sources were cited. Rank Monthly books spots in list articles and LinkedIn posts from publishers in its network, where the publisher accepts, and reports AI mentions for those placements in its ledger.
Does Rank Monthly track AI visibility?
Only for its own placements. The Rank Monthly ledger reports placements, page visits, clicks and AI mentions month by month for the spots you booked. It does not track hundreds of prompts or benchmark competitors across assistants, which is what dedicated trackers like Peec AI, Otterly.AI or Profound do.
How much does an AI visibility tracker cost?
On 1 November 2026, Otterly.AI started at $29 a month, HubSpot AEO at $50 a month, Peec AI at $95 a month, Scrunch at $250 a month and AthenaHQ at $295 a month, with a free AthenaHQ plan. Profound offers a free 7-day trial and custom enterprise pricing with no public figure.
Will a placement through Rank Monthly get my brand named in ChatGPT?
There is no promise. AI assistants decide which sources to cite and which brands to name, and a spot in a list does not mean that list will be cited. Rank Monthly reports the AI mentions it measures for each placement, so you can see what happened rather than assume it.
Do I need both a tracker and Rank Monthly?
It depends on the job. The tracker shows which lists assistants cite; Rank Monthly books spots in lists from publishers in its network. If you only need measurement, a tracker is enough.
